Taboo

On the way home from school, we got to talking about crushes. Elly had the silly grin on her face that made me think she was thinking about a boy. Turns out she was thinking about an Accelerated Reader test.

But it got us to talking about crushes. And Elly asked Paul if he had a crush on anyone. The sweet, sweet four year old replied:

"I have a crush on you and Mommy and Grandma Sheila and Daddy."

Eleanor's response: "Now that's just wrong. Wrong." And then later, "Now, if you were my second cousin once removed, I might think differently about it. But YOU'RE MY BROTHER!"

I wasn't surprised by her initial response, but I was a little stunned by the specificity of her later amendment.

So just in case you're curious, the degree of familial relationship that is okay for a crush: Second cousin, once removed.
